Not even @Ratarossa, Scotty Kilmer, The Car Wizard, Johnny the Car Ninja, Hoovie or Tavarish would dare tackle the insanity of resurrecting and modifying a 214,000 mile Corrado VR6 at the same time as a vintage Fiat Spider and maintaining a 241,000 mile 1.8t Jetta while tooling around in a 178,000 mile Mk4 R32 daily driver!! But I'm a special kind of crazy.
If you have an .:R32, Corrado, Fiat, Alfa, or some other weird quirky car that is a challenge to keep on the road, please share in the comments! If you've got a Sequoia, have pity on the other car owners whose vehicles will not outlast the rest of civilization as we know it.

      Earlier in the video you mentioned changing the coilovers out for h&r and Bilstein shocks. Are the current coilovers in the car ST by the KW brand?

    • @CliffjumperCars
      @CliffjumperCars День тому

      @@billbradley6380 What was on her for awhile were FK coilovers. They were VERY LOW. At their highest setting, they were barely in the range of what I'd consider streetable. Great for folks that are into super low. Not great for folks that need to drive over speed bumps, and in and out of driveways. When I filmed this, I did put on the OEM GLI Bilstien shocks and H&R springs, but unfortunately I found immediately that the Bilstiens were completely blown out. :( So I have been in the process of swapping around suspensions a bit between our two Mk4 Jettas... the other one had stock GLS springs and Koni FSD shocks, and the Koni shocks were pretty tired so I sent them back for warranty rebuild. They sent me a set of their new Active shocks in replacement (I think they're FSDs just in a different color with a different name). Those Koni shocks are going on Joan with that set of OEM GLI H&R springs, and I'm refreshing the rest of the suspension with new bushings, bearings, mounts, etc. The silver Jetta is going to also get a set of OEM GLI H&R springs but either Bilstien or KYB AGX shocks. I have another set of Bilstiens that I need to take by their factory here and see if they'll rebuild them. If they will, then I'll go with them. If not, then I'll go for the KYB's.

      @@CliffjumperCars I was wondering cause they look similar to the St's I have on my vr6 Corrado. They are almost at full height and still too low for my taste and I never cared for the way they handled or rode on the street. My plan was to change them out for adjustable Koni shocks/struts (I forget the model), along with h&r sport springs. I know the Rado is a different beast altogether but I'm hoping this will be a much better setup for the road. GL with the Jetta teardown!

    ISO, international Standards Organisation.. standard connectors for automotive head units, brilliant, plug and play but VW for some stupid reason decided to deviate from the standard. 🤡 2 wires want swapping, permanent live, usualy red and ignition live, usually black. Your head unit is loosing its memory because its loosing its supply.

    • @CliffjumperCars
      @CliffjumperCars 13 днів тому

      Interestingly, I pulled it out and double checked all the wiring. It's standard ISO. Constant 12V+ wire where it's supposed to be, switched 12V+ wire where it's supposed to be. Checked the actual voltage as well with a multimeter. 12V+ in the constant power pin, switched 12V+ in its appropriate spot too. Power supply is exactly what it is supposed to be.

      Yaw sensor not yawning, and disconnecting ABS not only disables ABS, it disables the stability control, making our 6500+ lb hard to stop vehicles pretty unsafe. DO NOT disconnect your ABS. FIX the system so it works as it should!! Also, disconnecting the ABS guarantees you will permanently have the ABS/VSC/TRAC lights illuminated on your dash. So no, not a fix.

    Is that can just enough for one set of headlights?

    • @CliffjumperCars
      @CliffjumperCars 16 днів тому

      2k clear coat begins to harden as soon as you press in the red button and mix the activator with the rest of the can's ingredients, so it's only good for an hour or so, then it will no longer spray. So while yes, you can use the can for more than one set of headlights, you need to do them all at once, because the clear coat has a time limit on it once you activate it.

    Pro tip if you came here for answers - generally, the failure will not be this ^^. Everything will be nice & tight in place. What will have occurred is the green or black wire on the sender itself - generally the green one that runs from the connector block to the rheostat - has broken down internally. You can test it easily for continuity from the block pin to the solder joint on the rheostat. It will look perfect, but will test as OL. It breaks because VW route it through a plastic crush-grip, which severs the internal strands. Many many VW fuel sender units have been thrown in the bin due to this failing. The simple remedy is to solder a new piece of wire from the rheostat to the metal connector that goes up through the "lid" of the sender/pump unit. You can leave the old wire in place, just solder your new jumper on alongside it. Ta-Da, your "broken" sender/gauge will work again. Cable-tie the wires to the sender body, don't refit them into the crush grip. Thank me later. :-)

    • @CliffjumperCars
      @CliffjumperCars 16 днів тому

      Thanks for adding that tip. This may be true IF your gauge does not read at all. If your fuel gauge is moving all over the place, then it's definitely NOT what you describe. When the lead is disconnected, there is zero signal to the rheostat, and the cluster gets no signal, hence the gauge does not ever move.

Being that we do occasionally take the truck out into the middle of nowhere on trails & mild rock crawling, and we've had occasion to actually use it twice in the past 5 years under said circumstances, I think we'll keep the spare handy.

    @bryanrutter4455 and @natem3977 are correct. That is simply the electrical plug for the sensor. The level sensor is inside the reservoir. No fluid will come out if you unplug it. Hopefully people can see this ignore the fuild removal part and just unplug that connector, clean up the contacts and that fixes their problem… but a bad electrical connection at the fuild level sensor is just one of possibilities in the brake warning light (brake level/park brake on) circuit.

I'd highly recommend finding someone to join you as a coach/mentor who has done it before so you get it right the first time. But there are LOTS of great UA-cam videos on how to do drum brakes. Just circling back on this, because I've done a couple of videos on this issue: 1) Use a Toyota specific scan tool to get the exact factory level codes to narrow down what's going on, since the generic OBD codes point to about 30 different possible problems. 2) BlueDriver and other bluetooth dongle type code readers are inconsistent at reading factory codes on older Toyotas like ours, so use an actual plug-in type scan tool. Again, it needs to be a Toyota specific scan tool, not a generic one, to get the factory level codes. 3) IF your factory level scan tool cannot read the ABS control unit AND you put in a new ABS unit , and it STILL does not read the codes, your OBD port itself may be the issue, as it was with ours.

    Thanks for the video! VERY HELPFUL! I found it while watching your other Sequoia videos on the vacuum system... I'm currently chasing down issues on my vehicle with those same codes. I had problems with my winch catching a bit the last time I needed to use it on my '04 G1 Sequoia. What about a "grime shield"? Perhaps cut a donut shape out of some flexible plastic cutting board material to lay on top of the spare tire/winch cable assembly to keep the new winch from getting ***as much*** grime on it over the remaining vehicle life. If you could find a piece of plastic large enough to match the tire's diameter, it would be captured by the tire against the underbody of the vehicle to keep it from catching wind while driving. Just an idea that came to mind while watching this.

      I love that idea. Even a properly mounted PVC pipe as a guide for the rod would probably work well, and yes - some sort of dust cover around the winch assembly would be helpful to keep it from seizing up!!

    On your passenger door the striker was worn through. What if you switched that striker to this door and then you might be able to slide the tube on without cutting?

    • @CliffjumperCars
      @CliffjumperCars Місяць тому

      The thing is, even though we can remove and flip the striker, we cannot remove the ends of the striker to slide the tube onto it. It's permanently affixed to the plate. That would have been a great solution though!!!

      The discs I have in mine are the ones I bought new in 2015, so they're about a decade out of date. There are tons of discs available on Ebay but most do not have a year update marking, so unfortunately without getting the set directly from Navtech, it's going to be hard to get reasonably updated discs.

    We have several of these at work. Used them often to jump start the bigger international and hino box trucks. It's pretty impressive. We also have F250s and ram 2500s, which usually sit for week's and we get them going with these as well.

      No worries. Those were made by TEC Automobildesign in Germany, sadly a tuner that no longer exists. They used Opel Calibra side skirts, shortened to fit the Corrado, and then wrapped them in carbon fiber.

    Hi i have a question, I bought the same Fog light like ur, but it have yellow bulb so i bought new h3 white led bulb for it but it has 1 cable is it compatible ? or i should buy another h3 bulb with 2 cable on it ?

    • @CliffjumperCars
      @CliffjumperCars Місяць тому

      H3 bulbs typically don’t have a ground cable because the mounting ring on the housing acts as a ground connection. You can add one by soldering on a wire with the spade connector you may need to make it work, to swap bulbs.

    I want to buy H&R Mono-tube coilovers like your, but i have 1 consern, on the website it says that lowering is from 30-55mm, does that means that if u make my coilover as long as possible, will my car still be 30mm lower?? or it will be higher if i put it on max.....??????? Because I want to life it up for the winter....pls help me

    • @CliffjumperCars
      @CliffjumperCars Місяць тому

      You are correct, the maximum height those coilovers can get is 30mm lower than stock. That said, I've driven my R32 in the snow a couple of winters, it's 30mm lower than stock, and it's just fine in the snow.

    • @the_steko
      @the_steko Місяць тому

      @@CliffjumperCars and how can i make it atleast the same hight?

    • @CliffjumperCars
      @CliffjumperCars Місяць тому

      @@the_steko you would need to find a different set of coilovers that have a greater adjustment range. There are some that in fact allow lifting higher than stock height, in addition to lowering. I'd recommend trying to find people that do overlander and baja builds on their vehicles to find out which models of coilovers work for your purpose. You can also reach out directly to the larger suspension manufacturers to ask specifically what model they have which will do what you want it to do. Koni and Bilstien are very responsive via email; I can't speak to other manufacturers but if you're wanting to go with H&R, reach out to them.

    the master technician who came out to service (clean) my walk-in cooler was 255 an hour and his helper was 150 an hour. after all that, my evaporator was corroded and 5k for replacement. after paying almost 6k for it, I did learn something I didn't know as a restaurant owner.... he schooled me on the acidity from all the marinated food cause corrosive particulates in air, so I need to wash down the evaporator coil more often.

    • @CliffjumperCars
      @CliffjumperCars Місяць тому

      Washing the coils regularly to get rid of grease, dust, dirt, tree sap, bugs, bird poop, all the normal stuff that accumulates on an outside unit is good preventative maintenance. Inside units in a restaurant usually benefit from an actual coil cleaning spray and agitation with a brush to clean it out, plus we treat the condensation pans with tablets to keep bacterial growth from taking place.
